The hike

Culture and nature on the banks of the Blies

Start your hike on the French side, from the Sarreguemines nautical center parking lot, a stone's throw from the entrance to the Moulin de la Blies. This unique site brings together two heritage treasures: the Jardin des Faïenciers, a verdant setting on former industrial wasteland, and the Musée des Techniques Faïencières, a living testimony to the know-how for which Sarreguemines is renowned.

Take the pedestrian bridge into the Sitterswald forest along the Franco-German border, in the heart of the remarkable landscape of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve in Germany.

Follow the river as far as Blies-Guersviller (on the French side), where you can discover the arboretum on the banks of the Blies. This educational trail, dotted with thematic panels, reveals the wealth of local flora and fauna. Take a break in the picnic area.

The tour then leaves the green alluvial plain to reach the Bliesgersweiler mill. Further on, you pass through the village of Kleinblittersdorf. Leaving its quiet lanes behind, you continue on through forest edges and flower-filled meadows. The high passes offer fantastic panoramic views as far as the Vosges mountains.

Finally, return along the Blies to your starting point at the Sarreguemines nautical center. Treat yourself to a gourmet break at its restaurant. It's the perfect way to round off this pleasant getaway between culture and nature.

Allow a full day to enjoy this tour to the full.
