The hike
Pedestrian. Take a tour of the Vieil-Étang de Bairon, a 105-hectare Natura 2000 site that's a favorite with birds. This 4.5 km walking loop takes you as far as Louvergny, where the Bairon stream feeds several lakes. By following the advice and explanations on the signposts, you may spot such remarkable species as a coot, great crested grebe, shoveler, grey heron or great egret. An ornithological observatory will help you make sure you don't miss any of their comings and goings. Practical info: easy level - start from the dyke - Natura 2000 trail signposted. Be careful during hunting season, so ask before you go.
