The hike

He started a community of Benedictine monks. Two facts explain the influence of this abbey in medieval Christianity:

- around the year 866, the arrival of the relics of Saint Foy, a young martyr from Agen, whose miracles would continue to attract the faithful;

- from the XIᵉ century, Conques became for pilgrims leaving for Santiago de Compostela, a major stopover on the road to Puy-en-Velay (via podiensis) .
