The hike

Departing from the Ermensbach parking lot, this 11.2 km hike takes you through deep forests, shady paths and mountain scenery to discover three superb high-altitude lakes.

From the very first meters, the trail gently rises, providing a pleasant warm-up. You soon reach the "Chemin des pierres" through the forest. After about an hour's walk, you'll reach the Neuweiher, a peaceful spot with two clear lakes one on top of the other.

This is also where you'll find the Neuweiher inn and refuge, where you can enjoy traditional local dishes in a bucolic setting overlooking the lake.

The hike then continues to Lac des Perches (or Sternsee), nestled in an impressive glacial cirque. The path leading to it climbs a little more steeply. This wilder lake offers a striking mineral backdrop, ideal for relaxation or photography. Depending on the season, the reflections of the sky on the water are spectacularly beautiful.

On the way back, the trail passes through the Riesenwald inn, another popular stopover for hikers. Here too, the warm welcome and typical cuisine allow you to regain your strength before the descent. The loop closes gently on the way back down to the starting point.

Swimming is not permitted in any of the three lakes along the route. In summer, the occasional presence of cyanobacteria can make the water unsuitable for animals. As a precaution, avoid letting your pets drink from the lakes.
